Port Huron native, Jacob Truscott, was signed by the Detroit Red Wings organization on Sunday as GM Steve Yzerman welcomed him into the organization.

Truscott was originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks 144th overall in the 5th round of the 2020 NHL draft, and was signed as a free agent.
The Michigan-born, Wolverine defenseman joins his hometown club, the Detroit Red Wings, as reported on Sunday.
He'll report to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL, where he'll add depth to the blue line, where he'll join 1st-round pick Axel Sandin-Pellikka.
Truscott's contract begins during the 2025-2026 NHL season and will be a two-year deal. No report on the AAV yet, but in 2024 the Canucks passed on signing the Michigan Wolverines captain.
Now, he'll get a shot to make the NHL as he begins his professional career in the NHL.
He served as the Michigan Wolverines' captain the last two seasons (2023-2025) and scored 16 points (3 goals, 13 assists).
His offensive stats are what you should be looking at for Truscott, as he is primarily a defensive defenseman. He's known for eating big minutes on the ice as a shutdown defenseman and is capable of being a good skater, with a decent ability to start the transition.
Overall, he is regarded as an effective and reliable defenceman, characterized by simplicity and effectiveness. While he may not possess elite attributes, he shows good skating, terrific shutdown ability, and a passable transitional game.

He's held his own in international play; in 2022, he suited up for Team USA.
He'd only play 5 games and come out with a +3 rating.
Truscott has played a total of 165 games for the University of Michigan, scoring 70 points (12 goals, 58 assists), leading the team in blocked shots this year with 56.
He's the only other Wolverine to hold the Captaincy for multiple years, other than former Wolverine and Red Wing Luke Glendening in 2012.
