Michael Brandsegg-Nygard ejected from IIHF tournament after controversial collision
Detroit Red Wings prospect Michael Brandsegg-Nygard has found himself ejected from the IIHF World Championship game today against Austria.
Brandsegg-Nygard would make the mistake of committing a brutal hit on fellow competitor Anders Koch of Denmark..
While Nygard thought he was helping his team out by keeping Anders Koch out of the play, he hurt his team by getting ejected.
Nygard's brutal hit ultimately held no purpose and cost his team more than it helped.
We can tell by the results alone a the end of the 2nd period. The Danish team has made them pay for the Red Wings prospect's careless hit, as the Norwegians are down by three goals, 5-2.
The penalty occurred at 12:13 into the 1st-period and was one of three careless penalties by Norway.
His teammates,
Stian Solberg and Harvard Ostrem Salsten, were also guilty of infractions against the Danish team, with cross-checking and high-sticking.
Seems to be the trend of the day for Norway, by acting recklessly, and putting their team in harm's way.
The Norwegian team has 33 PIMs in total today, a stupendous statistic for any hockey fan to see.
They're really gooning it up today, and Brandsegg-Nygard is helping for sure. He alone has 27 PIMs, 5:49 TOI, and 8 shifts taken today.
Those will be his last for now thanks to his game misconduct.
