Former Detroit Red Wings Grind Line member and 4x Stanley Cup champion Darren McCarty continues his exploits into fighting, except this time in a new setting!
Former Detroit Red Wings forward
Darren McCarty continues his exploits into fighting as he did during his playing days, except this time in a different setting.
He's bought The House of Truth, a wrestling school located in Center Line, Michigan. He plans on rebranding it as The Grind Time Wrestling Academy, and has appointed noted Michigan-based wrestler Schwartzy as the new general manager.
I've always had a deep respect for the physicality, showmanship, and heart it takes to succeed in professional wrestling. Our goal is to develop hardworking, safe, reliable, respectable athletes, educated in all aspects of professional wrestling, both in and out of the ring.
McCarty has shown interest in wrestling in recent years, having appeared wearing a Red Wings t-shirt at a TNA Impact event in Windsor.
In addition to being a member of the famed "Grind Line" with Kirk Maltby and Kris Draper, McCarty is also known for his famed beatdown of villain Claude Lemieux at Joe Louis Arena on March 26, 1997.
He later scored the overtime game-winner later in the game, and also went on to score the Stanley Cup-winning goal against the Philadelphia Flyers 3 months later to help the Red Wings end a 42-year championship drought.
During his NHL career, which included a brief stop with the Calgary Flames before completing an impressive comeback effort to re-join the Red Wings in 2008, McCarty scored 288 points (127G, 161A) with 1,477 penalty minutes.
