A decision has been rendered on Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Ilya Samsonov after he gave a whack to Detroit's Michael Rasmussen in the crease.

Yesterday at Little Caesars Arena, the Detroit Red Wings beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in a game that had massive postseason implications.
However, there was one play during the 2nd period that should have resulted in disciplinary action against Golden Knights goaltender Ilya Samsonov - but apparently, the NHL is turning a blind eye.
Michael Rasmussen did all that he could to avoid a collision with Samsonov in the crease despite being pushed in by Vegas defenseman Nicolas Hauge; Samsonov delivered a chop to the back of the head of Rasmussen, who recently returned to the lineup from a concussion.
Per the NHL rule book, a goaltender is to be assessed an automatic match penalty and ejection if he punches an opponent with his blocker, which could lead to a suspension.

No suspension for Ilya Samsonov

Rule 51: The NHL rule book states that a match penalty must be assessed if, in the judgment of the referee, a goalkeeper uses their blocking glove to punch an opponent in the head or face in an attempt to or to deliberately injure an
opponent.

Match Penalty Consequences: A match penalty results in the player being ejected from the game and potentially facing a suspension pending further review by the NHL's Department of Supplementary Discipline.
Once again, the NHL is dropping the ball when it comes to what should have resulted in a penalty against the Red Wings' opposition and follows a familiar refrain that we have seen in recent weeks, which included a blatant high-stick against Simon Edvinsson in the Stadium Series game vs. Columbus that went uncalled as well as Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras' brutal headshot on Rasmussen that went unpenalized in the game (he was later suspended for 3 games).
