NHL insider reveals the Detroit Red Wings are acquiring another goaltender
It's almost July, and pending UFA Alex Lyon hasn't received a contract offer. It's a situation we expected, as his performance in Detroit wasn't up to expectations.
With Yzerman keeping his cards close to his chest, you have to wonder what his next moves are.
Michal Postava was recently signed from HC Kometa Brno and will undoubtedly head to Grand Rapids.
Now, it seems, according to NHL Insider Jeff Marek, Yzerman isn't done yet, as the Red Wings are on the hunt for another goalie.
The
Red Wings' goalies didn't do so well this season. After finishing 22nd of 32 in team save percentage, it was apparent that the status quo had to change. Alex Westlund was part of the Lalonde era that was cast off.
Now, Lyon will likely join them.
But with a sparse amount of serviceable NHL goalies available, Yzerman may have slim pickings to choose from, in our opinion.
Arvid Soderblom, Vitek Vanacek, and
Jake Allen could be legitimate adds, depending on whether you want to get younger, to keep your net predictable with Allen in the crease.
The Red Wings will have enough salary cap space to entertain more than just the three goalies mentioned above. But will Yzerman be bold enough to acquire more than a retread,
Petr Mrazek?
A pedestrian view of free agency says he goes cheap, but if he wants to get out of a drought, he'll consider spending money to acquire the right goalie.
