The NHL issued a statement on the Detroit Red Wings' young forward Lucas Raymond on social media.
As part of its «NHL Young Stars Week,» the league highlighted Raymond's growing impact and potential historic milestone in an official statement.
Indeed, Raymond could be the tenth player in Wings history to reach the 100 goal-mark before his 24th birthday:
"Lucas Raymond (98) can be the 10th player in Red Wings history to score 100 career goals before his 24th birthday. Steve Yzerman (229) is the only one with at least 200."
The omission didn't sit well with many Red Wings fans, especially considering Raymond outscored every player on that list with 80 points in 82 games last season. And while these rankings are not based purely on production, it's rare to see a high-impact scorer excluded entirely.
Raymond's development since being drafted fourth overall in 2020 has been remarkable. With 98 goals and 156 assists for 254 points in 320 career games, he's been one of Detroit's most consistent players. His last two seasons alone-58 goals and 94 assists for 152 points-have been enough to place him among the NHL's top young talents.
He also scored five game-winning goals, including an overtime tally, and proved himself again on the international stage with 11 points in 10 games for Sweden at the World Championships.
Yes, names like Bedard, Celebrini, Michkov, and Caufield are exciting, but Raymond has already proven he belongs in the same tier as one of the most productive and complete young forwards in the league.
