Nicklas Lidstrom had nothing but great words to say about his former teammate Sergei Fedorov ahead of his jersey retirement ceremony.

The former Detroit Red Wings player and current Vice President of Hockey Operations of the same team, Nicklas Lidstrom, held a press conference alongside his former teammate and Wings legend Sergei Fedorov.
The Wings organization confirmed during the offseason that the team will retire Fedorov's number up in the rafters of the Little Caesars Arena in a ceremony set to go down on January 12th.
Yesterday, both Fedorov and Lidstrom met with reporters to discuss many topics.

Nicklas Lidstrom Speaks Highly of Fedorov In New Press Conference

Lidstrom and Fedorov spent 12 seasons together in Detroit. The two of them played big roles in the Wings' three Stanley Cups in 1997, 1998, and 2002.
Lidstrom had a lot to say about his former teammate. Here's what he mentioned about his impressive career and the honors he received, including seeing his jersey number retired:
"Sergei had a tremendous career. When I came to the Wings, he came in a year before I came and Sergei was already a star when I joined the team. A couple of years later he was a superstar in the NHL. A Hart Trophy winner, Stanley Cup winner, Selke (award), he won everything, so it's well deserved to see his jersey go up to the rafters."

He also talked about the fans, saying they pushed the team to work harder to bring the Cup back to Detroit:
"We had a few disappointing seasons, but we never thought we could not do it. The fans drove us, supported us, win or lose, bad or good. It was an amazing platform for us to continue this hard-working process until eventually getting that precious trophy to the city, to the state, to the fans.

Those parades, over one million people. I think it was a sea of people. It was a tremendous honor to be on that stage and speak to all those people who really wanted us to succeed. And really thank God we did it. This kind of winning attitude and winning manner helped one another."

The January 12th ceremony promises to be an emotional one. Make sure to stay tuned for further updates as we get closer to that date.
