The Detroit Red Wings have announced today that Goaltender Carter Gylander has been reassigned to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.

The Original-Six organization has reassigned former 191st overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, Carter Gylander, to the Griffins today.
Gylander began the 2025-26 season in the ECHL with the Red Wings affiliate, the Toledo Walleye. He played 4 games this year with a record of 2-2-0, and a .895 save percentage.
This was after his tenure with the Walleye started in 2024-25, where he'd play 34 games with the organization, and end the year with a record of 20-9-5, 2.61 GAA, and a .907 save percentage.
Is this a sign of a bigger move coming for the Red Wings, or merely a shuffle in talent at the moment?
Gylander played only 3 games last season for the Griffins, and that was after his collegiate career with Colgate University ended.

The Detroit Red Wings Reassign Carter Gylander

Gylander signed his entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings on March 19th, 2024. This came after spending four years in the crease with Colgate from 2020-24.
The two-year ELC pays him $855K AAV (average annual value), and is under contract until 2025-26.
The Alberta-native helped lead the Toledo Walleye to the ECHL's Kelly Cup finals and appeared in eight playoff games with a .895 save percentage.
The 6'5, 197-pound, Alberta-born goaltender will have a lot to prove in the AHL if he's to continue to make it up the depth charts.
