Patrick Kane gets honest about Red Wings' home record
The Detroit Red Wings return to Little Caesars Arena in a precarious position following a disappointing 0-2-1 road swing that included losses to the basement-dwelling Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks.
The Red Wings will take on the New York Islanders for the second time this season; nearly one month ago on October 22, the Red Wings bested the Islanders at UBS Arena by a 1-0 score.
They earned two points despite managing a mere 10 shots on goal combined with a 30-save shutout from Alex Lyon.
Patrick Kane, who scored the lone goal in the October 22 contest, knows the Red Wings must improve their play - especially on home ice.
We got to be a good home-ice team, Kane said. As tough as things look and they've been the last three games, you look at the standings, we're obviously towards the bottom.
But we put any type of streak together, we can creep right back into a playoff spot.
We're 18 games in, so there's a lot of hockey left. And as much as you want to be in that playoff situation, just stay in the present, worry about the next game, and try to get ourselves going.
Kane also explained that the lively crowd at Little Caesars Arena can be to their advantage, but it's up to them to give the fans something to cheer about.
You have to have some type of determination and excitement, whether it's playing in front of our crowd or something to get us going, something to get us excited about playing the game and being excited about the stretch we have ahead of us.
Kane is playing in his first full season with the Red Wings.
He agreed to return during the summer, signing a one-year, incentive-laden contract after joining the team last December as a free agent.
Tomorrow's game begins at 7:00 PM EST; coverage will be on FanDuel Sports Network along with 97.1 The Ticket.
