Today, after Alex Ovechkin scored goal 895 in his 1,487th NHL game, the greatest American-born forward, a Red Wing, Patrick Kane sent him a message of congratulations.
The Detroit
Red Wings have Patrick Kane, who is considered one of the greatest American-born forwards today.
In maintaining the integrity of the game, that means practicing good sportsmanship between competitors. That was shown in example today by Patrick Kane, who congratulated one of the greatest to play the game in Alex Ovechkin.
Alex Ovechkin surpassed Wayne Gretzky's record of 894 goals, with goal #895 today against the New York Islanders.
Soon after, Patrick Kane would not only congratulate Ovi, but relay a message that demonstrates how much respect they have for one another.
As Kane put it, it was an amazing accomplishment, which no NHLer thought anyone would break Gretzky's record.
Now that the Gr8 Chase is over, we'll have one less storyline to cover for the
Capitals, which is unfortunate, as milestones like these don't come into the forefront often.
Alex Ovechkin's goal against the New York Islanders came at 12:34 left in the second period during Sunday's game.
Of course, it came on the power-play, a suitable way to dethrone Gretzky, from the Gr8 one's office.
In 1,487 games Alex Ovechkin has scored 1,619 points (895 goals, 724 assists) and is an elite hockey player in the NHL.
It's difficult to see where Patrick Kane could come in terms of Ovi's record, but this season he hasn't slouched either.
