Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane will not meet some of the financial incentives in his contract that he agreed to during the summer.

While it wasn't entirely certain that Patrick Kane would return to the Red Wings last summer, he agreed to re-sign with a 1-year contract for what would be his 1st full year in Detroit.
His contract included a $4 million base salary along with up to $2.5 million worth of incentives. According to a deal breakdown from analyst Elliotte Friedman, the incentives were $1.5 million just for appearing in 10 games (which he's met), $250,000 for 60 games (he's met), $500,000 if the Wings make the playoffs, and $250,000 for posting 60 points and making the playoffs.
The last 2 incentives were not met, considering the Red Wings have all but officially been knocked from playoff contention thanks to last night's 4-1 loss to the divisional foe Montreal Canadiens.
Montreal is now a full 8 points ahead of the Red Wings in the Wild Card chase with just 5 games left in the schedule.
Kane got off to a very slow start for the first few months of the year under now-former coach Derek Lalonde, but rebounded back into form when the switch was made. In his last 37 games, Kane has 41 points (15G, 26A).
Thanks to his accomplishments, he's not only moved up the NHL scoring chart but was also named the Red Wings' nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy.
Kane can become a UFA on July 1 and could choose to depart town to try and win a final Stanley Cup in his Hall of Fame career. There's also the chance of choosing to stay in Detroit, considering his friendship and chemistry with Alex DeBrincat.
