Patrick Kane sends a cold message to Team USA and explains why they should name him to their Olympic roster
Former NHL player Nate Thompson had Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane on for an interview today as he gave a compelling answer to why USA Hockey should choose him for a spot in the Olympics.
Detroit Red Wing star
Patrick Kane finished last season with 21-38-59 points.
Only a year removed from his recovery
after a hip-resurfacing surgery, where we saw glimpses of "Showtime". He and the Red Wings weren't on fire, but showed plenty of promise that year, as we saw him post 20 goals and 47 points in 2023-24.
The three-time Stanley Cup champion was hosted by Nate Thompson and his wife Julie-Stewart Binks, and it's no secret that his goal is to earn a spot on the 2026 Olympic team.
Choose me for the player I am now, not for the player I was in the past"
This is a paraphrase of what he said on the podcast, but the message is still the same.
USA Hockey Needs Patrick Kane In 2026
Team USA will play in Milano-Cortina, Italy, in 2026. Should they choose to go with Kane, they will find a consistent forward who has just broken another milestone in the NHL last season, as the only American-born forward to have seven seasons where he's scored 20+ goals in the league.
There are three Stanley Cups attached to his legacy, along with a Hart Trophy, a Silver Medal in Vancouver at the 2010 Olympics, Bronze (2X) in Denmark (2018) and Sweden (2007), and a Gold Medal (2006-U18) in Sweden.
We can't think of a better veteran forward to complement Team USA's lineup than Patrick Kane. He's had two twenty-goal seasons consecutively and is a leader in the Red Wings lineup.
