Following their 5-3 win last night over the Chicago Blackhawks at Little Caesars Arena, the Detroit Red Wings have now won 6-straight games and vaulted themselves back to within striking distance of a postseason spot.
The Red Wings have gotten a tremendous boost from the hiring of Todd McLellan, who was brought back to the organization by general manager Steve Yzerman on December 26 while also terminating now-former coach Derek Lalonde.
McLellan has not only brought a new era of accountability to the Red Wings but has them playing a far more up-tempo brand of hockey that's resulted both in better defensive coverage and increased offense.
The Red Wings gathered at practice today in preparation for tomorrow afternoon's game against the Seattle Kraken (3:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
Forward Patrick Kane, who had a trio of assists in last night's win over his former team, appeared to take a subtle dig at Lalonde when comparing how the team is playing now as opposed to before.
Under Lalonde, the Red Wings would often sit back in the 3rd period when they had the lead and collapse into a defensive shell rather than continuing to attack, a strategy that came back to bite them more often than not.
Conversely, they remain in attack mode under McLellan and have forced their opposition into turnovers and making mistakes of their own.
