Red Wings accomplish incredible feat not seen in a decade

As we enter 2026, the Detroit Red Wings find themselves in a favorable position.

In a position lording over the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference, an incredible feat the Red Wings haven't witnessed since the 2015 season.

Through 42 games played this year, they are leading in both the division and conference metrics. The last time we saw them in a similar position was on February 11th, 2015.

In addition, their point total at this mark in the year is higher than we've seen them before during the 2014-15 campaign. That year was the last time they played beyond a full 82-game season of hockey.

They shouldn't lose sight of the prize beyond them and become complacent. Instead, they should find a way to strengthen their resolve and keep the pressure on this year.

We've seen the Red Wings battle through injuries, and still, McLellan finds a way to win with this team.

They've proven they're more resilient as a whole unit.

With Head Coach Todd McLellan leading the Red Wings for his first complete year, we have a better picture of his overall successes with the team. His record with the team at this point in the year is 50-32-8 but no postseason record, yet.

As for the 2025-26 season, they are 24-14-4, and 1st in the Atlantic Division.

To suggest they'll be a shoo-in for the playoffs doesn't seem unreasonable. He's able to get what he needs out of his team, requiring his players to be accountable.

While finding a way to make sure they don't lose sight of the purpose.

Not only is the AHL team making waves, but the NHL team is too. The final product should be a Stanley Cup if they're built for it.
