A goaltender currently developing with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL sent a big message to Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings.
The Grand Rapids Griffins' historic start to the season can be explained by the high veteran depth and the great prospects who are working on their game in the AHL while waiting for an opportunity to play in the NHL.
However, the goaltenders also have their say in the team's success.
The Wings head coach Todd McLellan shared his thoughts on the Griffins' goalies in a recent press conference:
"They are a very good hockey club. Goaltending gives them the security blanket of rescuing the team when they do make mistakes. But from what I understand, they don't make a lot. They're well-organized, so [Dan Watson] and his coaching staff have done a really good job."
Griffins forward John Leonard was also notably named as the player of the month in the same league, which highlights the depth on the Wings' AHL affiliate and marks the first time in franchise history that the team gets both the player and the goalie of the month titles.
With John Gibson and Cam Talbot struggling, it'll be interesting to see if Yzerman decides to call up Cossa.
