Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman met with David Perron's agent Allan Walsh at the combine last week in Buffalo to talk of an extension.
As the two parties close in on a deal, Perron has voiced that he wants to remain in Detroit and sees himself as a leader on the team. The 36 year old is crucial in the locker room with the younger players but also wants to lead by example on the ice.
"I don't want to just take on a leadership role and just do that in the room. I want to be a guy that does it on the ice too."
Perron's role will probably diminish next season as he continues to head towards the end of his career but can still be a bring part of the lineup in terms of leadership.
The Quebecois forward has 47 points last year and proved that he can still be a difference maker on the ice at 36.
