Following the Red Wings' latest loss, they announced a roster transaction that all but officially signals the return of veteran defenseman Jeff Petry to the blue line.

The Detroit Red Wings have been without veteran defenseman Jeff Petry since early January when he suffered an injury against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He eventually required surgery and was expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
Following the Red Wings' 6-3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night, they made a roster move that all but officially signals the return of Petry to the blue line.
Defenseman Brogan Rafferty was assigned to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins, paving the way for Petry to start suiting up once again.
Via beat writer Helene St. James of The Detroit Free Press:
Red Wings have assigned D Brogan Rafferty to the Griffins, an indication D Jeff Petry is expected to be available for Monday's game at Utah.
The Red Wings will already be without defenseman Erik Gustafsson for the rest of the year, as he recently was hurt and was labeled as being out "long term".
The Red Wings will be making their 1st ever trip to Utah to take on the Utah Hockey Club, who defeated them 4-2 at Little Ceasars Arena earlier in the month.
Petry is playing in his 2nd year with the Red Wings; he's played in 34 games with 6 points (1G, 5A).
Not long after he left the lineup thanks to his injury, the Red Wings re-called defenseman Albert Johansson from the Griffins; Johansson has mostly impressed in his short time in the NHL.
