Three Detroit Red Wings Reportedly Parting Ways With The Organization After a Disappointing Season
As the Detroit Red Wings continue to strive towards becoming stronger competitors, their future is looking very bright, however, it has been suggested that a few players will not be part of this re-build following the NHL 2024-25 season.
Since the 4 Nations Face-Off break, the Detroit Red Wings have undoubtedly taken a turn for the worst, they have slowly developed into one of the NHL's most disappointing teams following this tournament.
What was portrayed following the 4 Nations Face-Off is nothing to take lightly, this has shown the core has yet to reach a maturity stage, and in order for the organization to excel, the Wings' general manager, Steve Yzerman, has to add young-key player's and remove some aging player's who no longer fit their line-up.
The Detroit Red Wings roster cuts in NHL 2024/25 season
Patrick Kane may strike many as a key-forward who has been the glue of the Detroit Red Wings roster this year and that the organization would be silly to get rid of him, however, the 37-year old has only a few years left of his career, he'll be insistent on playing for a top-ranked contender or heading back to his original routes in Chicago.
It all comes down to whether or not Kane wants to hoist another Stanley Cup, or help endure the massive rebuilding project currently happening in Windy City, regardless of his decision, he unfortunately doesn't fit the criteria for Detroit's future roster plans.
Jeff Petry endured a brutal injury nearly three months ago, he hasn't stepped on the ice since. While he is also very comparable to Patrick Kane considering his age, the 37-year old only has a few years remaining within the NHL, becoming another probable trade this upcoming off-season.
Jeff Petry will also be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and similar to Kane, the Red Wings' GM isn't necessarily interested in aging players who can't enhance the overall depth of the organization.
Alex Lyon, similar to Jeff Petry, will also be a free agent this summer, and following the Red Wings' GM, Steve Yzerman, acquiring
Petr Mrazek during the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, this goaltender's likelihood of staying in Detroit is very doubtful.
Not only Lyon has been side-lined for majority of the team's games following the trade deadline, he is also a free agent, and the organization currently has multiple goaltending prospects on the loom. With all being said, this goaltender is almost guaranteed a new organization following this season.
Although there is no confirmation of which player's will leave or continue their time in Detroit. We can expect a very busy summer for Steve Yzerman and this original six team.
