The Detroit Red Wings have the option of bolstering their blue line by claiming this Montreal Canadiens prospect, who was placed on October 30 NHL waivers.

The Montreal Canadiens have foolishly waived one of their prospects, William Trudeau.
The defenseman was drafted 113th overall in the 4th round of the 2021 NHL Draft by the Canadiens. Since then, he's been exclusively a prospect in the organization, playing for the Laval Rockets beginning in 2022-23.
His career year in the AHL saw him score 27 points (7-20) during the 2022-23 season, beginning his minor-league journey. He's played 198 games in the minors with the Rocket, but he hasn't had a shot to crack the NHL lineup thanks to the Montreal Canadiens' deep prospect pool.
Could the Red Wings use him in order to bolster the blue line?

William Trudeau: A Fourth-Round Pick and Waiver Claim?

The defenseman was re-signed to a one-year, two-deal contract with the Canadiens on July 3rd, 2025.
To give you an idea of what the Detroit Red Wings would get if they claimed him.
From Andy Lehoux of FCHockey:
«Trudeau is a puck-rushing defensemen who radiated confidence carrying the puck in transition and stepping up on the cycle. He enjoyed facing obstacles on breakouts, which challenged his skating abilities and poise. His decent 2-3 steps acceleration and slick mitts often allowed him to jump ahead of forecheckers and escape pressure rapidly.» - Andy Lehoux, FCHockey

According to The Hockey Writers, his strengths are his hockey IQ, passing, mobility, and awareness.
But we shouldn't expect a physical defenseman like Moritz Seider if they do decide to take a risk and make a waiver claim.
