Detroit Red Wings fans should educate themselves when possible on the prospect pipeline, and goaltender Rudy Guimond is a name you haven't heard often, we're certain; this surging prospect deserves a look.

While goalie prospect Trey Augustine is a regular headline stealer for the Detroit Red Wings, there remains another.
That is Rudy Guimond, a Quebec-born goaltender who has played in the QMJHL with the Moncton Wildcats for the last two seasons.
The Red Wings goaltending prospect, Guimond, was selected 169th overall in the 2023 NHL draft by Steve Yzerman and is one player who isn't mentioned by the team that often.
He helped the Wildcats win the Gilles-Courteau Trophy last season and has been playing shutout hockey this season and last.
During the 2024-25 season, he played a total of 16 games for the Wildcats and ended the year with a record of 16-0-0, a 1.73 GAA, and a .940 save percentage.
In 2025-26, he's continuing the dominance of the QMJHL with a record of 10-3-1, a 2.39 GAA, and a .916 save percentage.
Maybe a bit of a fall to Mother Earth in terms of underlying statistics, but still great production for a 2nd-year goalie in the juniors.

Rudy Guimond: The Next Detroit Red Wings Starting Goalie?

While those statistics are impressive, in the pecking order of the Red Wings pipeline, he has been prioritized below Trey Augustine, Sebastian Cossa, and Michal Postava.
The latter two of those three mentioned have turned pro already and have begun their AHL careers, albeit in troubling fashion this season; Cossa has plenty of upside.
It gives you an idea of how deep the Red Wings' goalie pipeline truly is at the moment.
"He'll be at Harvard next fall. That will give the Red Wings even more time to evaluate him before they have to make a decision."

Guimond should be battling for a spot in the lineup in the future, but when he makes the jump to the NCAA, that's when they'll have a true idea of how he'll fare in the NHL down the road.
