The Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane is outperforming one divisional rival in production this season
Despite being out on injury, forward Patrick Kane is performing above one of the best American-born players in the NHL.
In an interesting post by The Michigan Sports Truth Podcast, Kane might be out on injury and playing on a fake hip, but he's doing better than a divisional rival.
If we omit the empty net and PK per 60 minutes, Patrick Kane leads the Red Wings in points per 60 minutes in the last 90 games played at 3.34 points per 60.
At age 37, he leads Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews, at age 28, without Mitch Marner, who is falling behind Kane, with 2.21 points per 60.
Quite a harrowing statistic for Auston Matthews, who is a former Hart Trophy winner. He's been struggling to reach the promised land of the Stanley Cup finals, and this could be another nail in the coffin of his hopes this season with this statistic.
He's just not as productive this season.
A harrowing revelation for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are struggling to put themselves in a playoff spot in the Atlantic Division.
All the while, Kane is positioning himself to close in on numerous milestones with the Red Wings this season.
The Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane leads the team in points per 60 minutes
While over the last 90 games his points per 60 minutes is 3.34, for his career his P/60 is 3.08, this shows his consistency despite playing across three different franchises.
This season has been one for the history books for Kane. He's 9 points from surpassing Red Wings legend Mike Modano in career points. Since he's been injured, he's stuck at 1,366.
He's just short of completing another career milestone, which has been put to the wayside while he's recovering: the hunt for 500 goals, which he's only two short of.
At his production this season, we should expect him to reach, or surpass, both of these in the near future, we hope.
For now, his historic season has been plagued by injury. Can he turn on the afterburners when he returns to the lineup?
