Detroit Red Wings prospect and forward Michael Brandsegg-Nygard has been an impact player after he arrived in the AHL after being sent down to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Van Andel Arena has been privileged to see first-round pick Michael Brandsegg-Nygard in action.
The former 1st-round pick, MBN, was reassigned to the AHL 3 weeks ago, and since then, he's been unstoppable.
The Norwegian-born forward has been an impact player in the lineup, helping to defeat the Toronto Marlies in the Van Andel Arena, the Griffins' home.
To give you a good idea of how well the Red Wings' prospect pipeline is doing:
The Griffins (10-0-0-1) are 6-0 at home, their best start since going 8-0 in 2009-10.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygard: A Top Detroit Red Wings Prospect

Brandsegg-Nygard was the first Norwegian-born NHL prospect to be selected in the 1st round in 2024.
The Red Wings prospect has shown promise this season, playing in the NHL for 9 games and scoring an assist. But it's clear there's a need for further development, as his production wasn't up to par for a team that has its eyes on the playoffs.
Hence, there is a need to correct some of his mistakes, which were obvious in the NHL.
Some things he will likely need to clean up in the AHL are giveaways, as the Norwegian winger has ten on the season, the most of any forward on the Red Wings.

Brandsegg-Nygard had previously played only 2 games in the AHL last season after turning pro and leaving his SHL team to join the Red Wings organization.
He's acclimated to the AHL quickly, playing 6 games with the Griffins this season and scoring 3 points (1-2).
Originally a 15th overall pick in 2024, Brandsegg-Nygard has found himself situated in the bottom six of the Red Wings organization.
In the AHL, he'll have more playing time and more chances to grow his game rather than waiting for a spot in the NHL.
