Little did the Detroit Red Wings know, they would acquire their future number-one goaltender during the 2023 NHL entry draft in Nashville, Tennessee.

Just one week ago, Red Wings goaltending prospect Trey Augustine earned the honors of receiving the BIG10 NCAA player of the week award, which is quite rare for a goaltender.
"Augustine made 60 saves last weekend, recording his third shutout of the season against then #3 Penn State on Saturday.

What's more rare than winning it in back-to-back weeks?

Trey Augustine earns NCAA player of the week for the second straight week

Gavin McKenna, James Hagens, and Cole Hutson are names of future top NHL talents that Augustine topped once again this week, as he's earned the first star honors once again.
"Trey Augustine and Porter Martone are your Big Ten First and Third Stars of the Week!

Augustine is the First Star of the Week for the second consecutive week after posting a .963 save percentage and a 1.01 goals against average

Martone scored three goals for us at Notre Dame, including the game-winner on both nights"

The Red Wings have their future netminder right in front of them currently developing at Minnesota State University.
Locked on Red Wings provided some insight into his recent play, which has contributed to his impressive 8-1-0 record, alongside a stunning 1.32 GAA and a .948 SV%.
"He has been lights out, almost robotic in the best way possible. And that's one of the things that people praise so much about Trey Augustine: while he doesn't have this size that Sebastian Cossa does, he has a rock-hard mentality. He does not let things faze him; he just goes out there and knows what his job is. He doesn't go through those highs and lows-he is just a machine. And his mechanics are so well refined. You know, the four games that stand out so much for the Spartans are obviously the two wins against Penn State."
Augustine should make the leap to Detroit's NHL club in the next season; whether that is with the NHL's Red Wings or AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins, he and the organization are in very good hands.
