Red Wings octopus tradition lives on at Little Caesars Arena during opening game of the NHL regular season
The Centennial Season for the Detroit Red Wings on home ice at Little Caesars Arena has already given us some exciting highlights against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Detroit Red Wings
take on the Montreal Canadiens tonight in Little Caesars Arena.
This season is the Centennial Season, where the team has debuted clean jerseys, which detail the team's history.
Of course, one part that was missing was the octopus throw, which has been a cultural phenomenon in Detroit dating back to the Red Wings'
playoff runs in 1952, during the Gordie Howe era.
"The Legend of the Octopus is a sports tradition during Detroit Red Wings home playoff games involving dead octopuses thrown onto the ice rink. The origins of the activity dates back to the 1952 playoffs when a National Hockey League team played two best-of-seven series to capture the Stanley Cup."
However, fans who throw objects on the ice at Little Caesars Arena are subject to ejection.
The fans are eager to get things rolling this year, and it looks like, despite no playoff run in sight,
the animals are being thrown on the ice of Little Caesars Arena.
The Detroit Red Wings Lead the Montreal Canadiens Ii the 1st-Period
Captain
Dylan Larkin, of the Detroit Red Wings, scored the game's 1st-goal on the power play tonight against the Canadiens.
Patrick Kane and defenseman
Moritz Seider assisted on the point, and obviously, that was all a fan needed to celebrate tonight.
In this exciting Original Six home opener, the fans are eager to get the season going and have begun to toss animals on the ice.
The last game in Joe Louis Arena was
commemorated by fans throwing 35 octopi on the ice in 2017.
Now, the team needs to give fans a better reason to throw them, rather than just scoring a power-play goal.
