A former Detroit Red Wing is set to take on a starting role with a divisional rival organization, the Buffalo Sabres.
Goaltender, Alex Lyon, was signed by the Detroit Red Wings on July 1, 2023, and went on to spend his time within this Original Six franchise from 2023 to 2025.
However, nearing the end of this goaltender's contract, the Detroit Red Wings never gave him a contract extension, which ultimately left this netminder to become a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA).
Lyon would later go to sign a contract with the Buffalo Sabres on July 1, 2025.
Now, Alex Lyon is expected to make his first opening-night start today, Thursday, October 9.

The Buffalo Sabres are set to take on the New York Rangers in KeyBank Center tonight, Thursday, October 9, and due to the Sabres' starting netminder recently undergoing an injury, Lyon will be taking to the ice.
Although Lyon is excited to take on the primary spot in nets tonight, he is trying to maintain his focus as the Sabres begin the beginning of their six-month, 82-game season.
«Honestly, I think it's just another game for me,» he said following Wednesday's practice. «Honestly, looking forward to starting the process. You put in a lot of work of the course of the last five months, and so you just hope it all comes to fruition and comes together.»
He continued:
«We're trying to play a complete 60 minutes against a very good, very dangerous hockey team,» he said. «So we need to be emotionally and mentally prepared for that. And then after that, the train doesn't stop again.
«So right now, it's now you're entering a very long, tough season, and so I just think you have to be mentally prepared for it.»
Do you think the Detroit Red Wings made the right move by not re-signing Alex Lyon?
