The Detroit Red Wings' head coach, Todd McLellan, addressed a disconnect amongst players, as the team lost their fourth game in a row, 3-2 to the Boston Bruins.
While the Detroit Red Wings were able to salvage a point in the 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins, the slump that follows them is plaguing their hopes of a playoff spot.
During this stretch of games, the team has given up 19 goals and would give up a troubling six goals against from the Nashville Predators on November 26th.
The disconnect between the forward and defense groups couldn't be more apparent, as the Predators before that game hadn't scored five goals all year.
While the team has shown they can play well, it doesn't stop accountability from arriving, especially after putting up their best effort against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Detroit Red Wings' defensive collapse, a sign of disconnect per Todd McLellan
With a troubling -13 goal differential (ranked 28th overall in the NHL), the trend of defensive collapse has continued, and Todd McLellan would call out the team's disconnect:
"We don't get 13 wins 25 games in without having a team that can play well enough," McLellan said. "Are we playing well enough? No, we're not. Why aren't we? There's a little bit of disconnect between forwards and (defensemen) right now.
"Then in a team game, you sometimes get punished as a team, score-wise, momentum-wise, win-loss wise, for individual mistakes," he continued. "That happens. Team breakdowns are much more repairable than just an individual faux pas."
The losses to the Nashville Predators and Tampa Bay Lightning show a team that has given up on its defensive responsibility, which they demonstrated against the Seattle Kraken and New York Rangers.
