The Detroit Red Wings veteran forward James Van Riemsdyk has found a way to stay hot against the Washington Capitals on Saturday
Saturday, December 20th, saw the Detroit Red Wings begin an inevitable gauntlet of some of the best teams in the league.
For the Red Wings, help came in clutch from forward James Van Riemsdyk, who contributed a goal against goaltender Logan Thompson of the Washington Capitals.
He cleaned up a loose puck in front of that net that Thompson failed to control, capitalizing on the error and scoring the second goal of the day, with 1:37 into the second period.
While the Washington Capitals are 11-5-2 at home in Capital One Arena, they suffered another loss today from the red-hot Original Six team, which had scoring in bunches thanks to James Van Riemsdyk.
This is just another compelling story from veteran JVR, who was signed by the Detroit Red Wings this offseason to a $1 million average annual value deal for one year.

The former 2nd overall pick in 2007 scored his 8th goal of the season in 29 games, putting his contribution to the Red Wings' success at 9 points (8-1) this season.
Also helping clean up against the Washington Capitals along the way were Moritz Seider, Elmer Soderblom, and a call-up from the AHL in John Leonard, who struck first against the Capitals.
The Red Wings would bolster their efforts as a team unit, scoring by committee with Dylan Larkin, Moritz Seider, JVR, Elmer Soderblom, and John Leonard contributing to the win, 5-2.
Of course, JVR has proven his mettle as a bottom-six forward in the Red Wings. Now the question remains whether or not the person the Red Wings signed in the summer can help propel them to a Stanley Cup.
He's been a meaningful reinforcement since October and hasn't stopped being great since.
