Steve Yzerman's latest message to the Detroit media sounds like a goodbye message to the Red Wings fan base
The Detroit Red Wings have experienced all the highs and lows within the past four decades and have become one of the worst franchises in the NHL in recent years.
After four Stanley Cup wins in the late 1990s and early 2000s, they've quickly fallen out of playoff success.
As each season moves on, it's a relapse of disappointment, tallying up another year of no playoffs.
On Wednesday, Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman issued a clear message to fans of 'Hockeytown' and commented on their expectations, which he also made clear were quite high.
Yzerman's words nearly seemed like a goodbye message, voicing his appreciation to the fans of the organization throughout his time as a general manager and a player.
"I want to say to our fanbase, I appreciate and have always appreciated the support whether I was a player here or the general manager of the team," Yzerman said.
"The passion, the knowledge, the history of our fanbase, I'm very appreciative of their support, and very understanding of the demand and the want for success here because this fanbase expects it, and we are very fortunate as an organization to have a passionate, demanding fanbase."
Yzerman has been general manager of the Red Wings since April 2019 and has yet to lead the Red Wings to playoff success.
It wouldn't be a surprise if upper-management made a bold move by parting ways with him.
A recent
potential rift in Detroit between team captain
Dylan Larkin and Steve Yzerman highlighted the frustrations mounting on Red Wings players, and their displeasure with not making the playoffs.
Let's hope Yzerman's being genuine here and will make changes that will accordingly lead to fan's hopes, playoff contention.
