Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman declares a major free-agency signing is happening

The Detroit Red Wings don't have a complex lineup. The top-six in Detroit is a bit underwhelming, as the team has had to utilize Jonatan Berggren, and Marco Kasper to fill the gaps.

While they're not terrible by any means, they've been elevated due to necessity, due to lack of available talent in the lineup.

Which GM Steve Yzerman, should work on fixing during free agency, as the Red Wings need help down the middle, and on LW1?

It's obvious Andrew Copp hasn't been the answer in Detroit, as his time in New York was ultimately an anomaly.

And Kasper, while he's held the 2C spot up quite well in his absence, but Kasper doesn't have the kind of grit down the middle the team needs.

Which explains why GM Steve Yzerman might be ready to dole out $10-11 million dollars in free agency to secure top talent.

Copp has played 135 games for the Red Wings, and the former Wolverine has scored a total of 56 points (23 goals, 33 assists) as a Red Wing. Not the kind of numbers you'd want paying someone $5.6 million AAV.

GM Steve Yzerman will have a plethora of free agents down the middle to choose from, including John Tavares, Matt Duchene, Brock Nelson, and Sam Bennett for centers.

While Mitch Marner, Brad Marchand, and Brock Boeser could be meaningful additions to the team's lineup.

It's all a matter of will, and his lack of action in March led to the team failing to meet demands from fans this season.
