Steve Yzerman offers insight on conflict and private conversation with Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin
GM Steve Yzerman got defensive once again during a press conference, as he addressed the top of the trade deadline, and Dylan Larkin's comments on a lackluster moves, NHL Insider Brad Galli gave us a look.
Yzerman wouldn't elaborate on his feelings about Captain
Dylan Larkin's comments during the trade deadline.
Larkin felt like the Red Wings didn't add enough to gain any momentum during the trade deadline. But Yzerman felt that only one minor move was suitable for the deadline, but felt that the talent available wasn't worth 1st-round picks, or a top prospect.
Which, is debatable especially if you could find a way to turn some of these rentals now on playoff teams into a long-term deal.
«It was hard that we didn't do anything,» Larkin said. «And then I felt the group kind of - we didn't gain any momentum from the trade deadline and guys were kind of down about it.
Another excuse for a lack of action in March from Yzerman.
He'd add only
Craig Smith and goalie
Petr Mrazek in March, and neither addition would be what the team needed to become competitive near the end of the 2024-2025 season.
The resulting trades didn't do much for the Wings, as they finished the year in 6th place in the Atlantic Division.
Their season-ending record was 39-35-8.
Yzerman would rather defer to Dylan Larkin than defend himself or explain the discussion he had in private with Larkin.
Is accountability only for the players at this point?
