Tensions boil over at Detroit Red Wings' training camp after Moritz Seider throws large hit
Max Bultman of The Athletic has reported on an incident at the Detroit Red Wings training camp that has caused tensions to flare, as Moritz Seider hit Elmer Soderblom up and over the bench.
Moritz Seider is the Detroit Red Wings' top defenseman.
Last season in 82 games, he put up 8-38-46 points for the team, is a solid puck mover, and is a shutdown defenseman.
Forward Elmer Soderblom got a taste of his skills during training camp today, as he put Soderblom over the bench with a vicious hit.
While footage of this incident is unable to be shown due to the scrum, Max Bultman and The Hockeytown West Podcast reported the following:
Moritz Seider: A New Detroit Red Wings leader?
What this news out of training camp has shown us is that Seider is challenging his teammates to be better.
The team's 6th-place finish in 2024-25 has obviously set something off in Seider that has caused him to think of leveling one of his own teammates as acceptable in practice.
An attitude that should replicate as Soderblom, a towering 6-foot-8 forward, could introduce a little chaos of his own and make himself difficult to play against.
There were no reports of a fight between Soderblom and Seider, but I wouldn't put it past the two players, who both experienced a disappointing year under Derek Lalonde for the majority of 2024-25.
Can Mortiz Seider set the tone for the Red Wings during the regular season? If he does, the time to do it is now.
The Red Wings defenseman was on the cusp of making the NHL Network's Top 20 defenseman list, and leading his team to the playoffs could change his fortunes next year.
