Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider, playing for the German squad in the 2025 IIHF World Championships, was hurt during a recent game.
While the Detroit Red Wings finished their season without a playoff spot for the 9th straight year, which is now the longest in team history, not every player decided it was time to stop playing for the summer.
Defenseman Moritz Seider was one of a handful of Red Wings players to travel back overseas to represent their respective nation in the 2025 IIHF World Championships, which run through May 29.
Seider, the captain of the German squad, actually suffered what looked like a groin injury in their matchup against Denmark.
The good news for him is that he was back out for the start of the 3rd period, but concerns are still there that it's a lingering injury and he tried to play through it. Even though Seider and the Germans would lose to Denmark, Seider still earned Player of the Game Honours.
It's always a possibility. Obviously, I like playing the Worlds. If it's possible, I think I will be more than happy. I mean, there are higher powers up that gotta be asked. Other than that, I think we'll find a solution.
Though if he had a choice, he would rather be representing the Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Obviously you want to still play hockey at that time of the year. You kind of want to prepare yourself, hopefully for an eventual (Stanley Cup) run.
Playing in all 82 games, Seider had 46 points (8G, 38A).
