The Detroit Red Wings organization has invited a very intriguing player to their development camp, according to new reports.

Even though the Detroit Red Wings appear to have entered the next phase of their rebuild over the past seasons, it looks like General Manager Steve Yzerman still has an eye set on the future of the team.
While most teams who are in playoff contention usually decide to refrain from getting young players to concentrate on assets who can play a role in the franchise now, the Wings, who only missed the playoffs by three wins this year, are still building the foundations of a winning team.
The team appears set to officialize the signature of a young player who could be included in the team's long-term plans.

Intriguing 6'6" Defenseman Invited To Red Wings Development Camp

Undrafted players who get invited to development camps do not always return home with a professional contract, but if they can leave a strong impression, they sometimes do, and that's what Viking Gustafsson Nyberg will be looking to get this summer in Detroit.
Indeed, reports confirmed that the 21-year-old defenseman was invited to the Red Wings development camp, after a great season for the University of Connecticut:
Gustafsson Nyberg was even named Hockey East Defender of the Month for March and April, with three points, including one goal, in seven games with UConn:
He finished his sophomore season with 11 points in 39 games, showing offensive potential in addition to his great defensive abilities.
With Simon Edvinsson at 6'6" and Moritz Seider at 6'3", the Red Wings could have a scary defensive unit for many years if they were to lock down Gustafsson Nyberg.
If they don't, another team is likely going to jump on the opportunity to sign him, and that's the kind of player you'd rather have on your side.
