The Detroit Red Wings need a spark, and a local Detroit sports radio station took things to a new level by suggesting an outer-worldly trade with the Maple Leafs.
The Detroit Red Wings have now missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the last 9 straight years, officially the longest drought in team history.
Considering the Red Wings are close to celebrating their centennial season as they were founded in 1926, that's a startling statistic.
A top Detroit radio station is suggesting an earth-shattering move that involves trading Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin to the divisional foe Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for none other than Auston Matthews.
Matthews, who has struggled in his team's second round series against the Florida Panthers, has yet to score in any of the 1st 5 games of the series. If the Maple Leafs are pushed out of the playoffs by the Panthers, would the Leafs entertain a franchise-altering move like this?
Host Mike Valenti suggested the Red Wings contact the Maple Leafs and see if they'd be interested in trading Auston Matthews in return for a package that would start with Dylan Larkin.
