A trade proposal involving the Vancouver Canucks could help the Detroit Red Wings get closer to being true contenders in the NHL.

The Detroit Red Wings took a massive step this season. Even if they had a few bad games, and consistency remains an issue, the team is better than last year.
However, some pieces are still missing in Detroit to make the team a true contender.
According to multiple reports, a player fitting the Wings' needs is available on the trade market.

Wings Could Target Vancouver Canucks' Kiefer Sherwood On Trade Market

In Vancouver, the President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford was clear when he revealed he would listen to offers from teams for some of the Canucks' veterans.
One of the names that keeps returning in the rumors is Kiefer Sherwood.
The player will hit free agency at the end of the season, and his $1,500,000 AAV deal is an attractive contract for teams without a lot of cap space available.
This season, the 30-year-old forward has 16 points, including 12 goals.
"I try not to look at it. I think we just try to focus on playing and try to stay in the present. You know, I love it here and I love this group here, and I just want to continue to take it day by day. That stuff will sort itself out. I'm just focused on trying to have a good road trip here and get a couple of wins."

"I guess it's just part of the gig. You've got to be professional and you have a job to go play. You try to have a good mindset through it all. Life and hockey are a mental game, so you try to focus on what you can control. And the two things I always go back to are your attitude and your work ethic, so I try to focus on those."

"I'm just grateful for the opportunity they gave me. When I signed here, I felt like it was a good opportunity for me to grow, and I'm very thankful for every opportunity that management, the team and the coaching staff have given me. That (contract) stuff, I always say, usually takes care of itself. Obviously, it's a business from their end, so it's not a surprise. But, you know, I'm just trying to focus on helping this team turn it around here and try to get back into the playoff picture."
The Wings could benefit from a player like Sherwood in their lineup. Details and updates on the situation will follow.
