New insight has unveiled three potential net-minder candidates the Detroit Red Wings can look to acquire this offseason.

The Red Wings endured an unfortunate 2024/25 NHL season to say the least, as the organization missed postseason contention by inches, making this season their nine-straight year absent from the playoffs.
That being said, the Detroit Red Wings' general manager, Steve Yzerman, is expected to put his 'Yzerplan' in full motion this offseason.
And an area where the organization is currently lacking is undoubtedly within the net.
At the moment, the Red Wings currently have three goaltenders in their roster; Alex Lyon, Petr Mrazek, and Cam Talbot.
However, with Detroit's recent struggles, and Lyon's expiring contract, a trade is expected to happen, so let's dissect three potential net-minder candidates the organization can look into this offseason who will hit the open market this offseason.

Three potential goaltender candidates for the Detroit Red Wings

The New Jersey Devils' Jake Allen could be a great option for the Red Wings on a short-term deal, to help the organization pursue postseason contention.
Allen went 13-16-1 with a 2.66 GAA (Goals-Against Average), and a .906 SV% (Save Percentage), with four shutouts for the Devils.
The San Jose Sharks' Alexander Georgiev was previously of interest for most Red Wings fans before he was traded in the 2022 season, and he could also be a nice option for Detroit.
Georgiev played 49 games this past season, between the Colorado Avalanche and the Sharks, where he went 15-26-4 with a 3.71 GAA, and an .875 SV%.
Last but not least, the Vegas Golden Knights' Ilya Samsonov. This net-minder would be a piece that could be a 1A-1B for the Red Wings.
During the 2024/25 NHL season, Samsonov went 16-9-4 with a 2.82 GAA, and a .891 SV%, and two shutouts.
All three of these potential candidates will all hit the open market this offseason as they are UFA's (Unrestricted Free Agents).
Another possible route GM Yzerman could take, is re-signing the organization's net-minder, Alex Lyon, yet, the likelihood seems slim according to several reports.
