The New Jersey Devils have acquired forward Zack MacEwen from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a Stanley Cup Champion towering defenseman on Friday.

As the NHL season is only four days away, teams are making last-minute adjustments, including acquisitions to complete their roster.
That's exactly what the Ottawa Senators and New Jersey Devils did on Friday, as the two organizations have completed a deal that will improve both rosters.
The New Jersey Devils released the following statement:
"The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team has acquired forward Zack MacEwen in a trade with the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Kurtis MacDermid. The announcement was made by President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.

MacEwen, 29, split last season with Ottawa and Belleville (AHL). In 21 NHL games last season, he scored two goals and one assist with 21 penalty minutes. In 23 AHL games, he registered seven goals, and nine assists with 29 penalty minutes."

Trade between the Devils and Senators signals good news for the Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings recently sent down a whopping 6 players to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins, including forward Austin Watson.
Watson, a longtime enforcer in the hockey world, was one of the only 'scrappers' on the Red Wings' roster to protect the youth.
With MacDermid only requiring a fourth-line player like Zack MacEwen, it's promising and good news for Detroit, as it won't take much to acquire a strong reinforcement to protect their youth.
It's also an interesting aspect that truly highlights how much enforcers in the game of hockey are going on instinct or deemed 'invaluable' by general managers.
