The NHL debut of Red Wings forward Carter Mazur was cut short because of an injury, and the grim diagnosis has come through from coach Todd McLellan.
It was not the kind of debut that Detroit Red Wings forward Carter Mazur envisioned along with the hundreds of family and friends that he had in attendance at Little Ceasars Arena on Thursday night against the Utah Hockey Club.
On just his 2nd shift of the game, he crashed awkwardly into the boards and immediately exited the ice and was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the game.
He has an injury that's a little more serious, and he's probably going to be out for some time.
Will he return this year?
Let's hope so.
Mazur and his family were excited for his NHL debut
Prior to Thursday's game, Mazur spoke about the excitement of not only having made the NHL but making his debut of the team he grew up rooting for in front of family and friends.
My dad knows enough people who are his friends, and (Mom) spread the news, too; I think everyone knows. They've been part of the journey. I'm going to have 200 to 300 friends and family, and it's going to be pretty exciting.
I see a little bit of the speed and penalty killing (from Helm' game in Mazur), but I want to be my own player here. I want to make my own name for sure, and be Carter Mazur.
I love the battle. Detroit is a gritty city, too, and that's something I can add to this team, add my game and hopefully contribute the way I can, and hopefully the wins will come.
