Todd McLellan makes it known who the Red Wings' starting goaltender is
The Detroit Red Wings head coach, Todd McLellan, has made an announcement of the starting goaltender for their next game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.
Head Coach Todd McLellan of the Detroit Red Wings has given the starting role against the Toronto Maple Leafs on the 13th to veteran Cam Talbot.
The veteran goaltender has had real success against the Toronto Maple Leafs during preseason play and with one win in the regular season.
"Todd McLellan confirms that Cam Talbot will get his second straight start for the DetroitRedWings in tomorrow's rematch against the Leafs."
In his last two starts against the Maple Leafs, Talbot has shown himself to be the brick wall we'd hoped John Gibson would be. In the Detroit Red Wings'
win over the Maple Leafs in both games, he'd give up a total of 4 goals and have a save percentage of .947 (October 2nd) and .870 (October 11th).
While it's not wholly impressive, it seems that McLellan is riding the
hot hand with Talbot at the moment.
While John Gibson, who was thought to be the savior in the goal for the Red Wings' production, hasn't been stellar, despite having a team better than the Anaheim Ducks in front of him.
It'd leave him with a .615 save percentage to start the season, not inspiring confidence in Todd McLellan.
Like the coach, we expected better out of the veteran netminder.
Is this going to set the tone for Gibson's season in 2025-26? Or is it a matter of him working through the rust of the offseason?
Either way, Cam Talbot will receive his 2nd-start in a row, on Monday.
