Top pending UFA defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov of the Los Angeles Kings has sent a very pricey message to teams considering signing him - will it prove to be too expensive for the Red Wings?
The Red Wings need some serious upgrades on their. blue line, and one potential summer target of theirs has made it clear that he won't be coming with a discount.
Los Angeles Kings defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov, who is by all indications going to hit the open market this summer, will likely come at a steep price.
Per analyst Frank Seravalli, Gavrikov's next contract will likely stretch over 7 years and carry an AAV (average annual value) of $8 million.

Meanwhile, analyst Elliotte Friedman
has pointed toward the New York Rangers as a potential fit for Gavrikov.
Among left shots, Vladislav Gavrikov is not believed to have a long list of places he wants to go if he leaves Los Angeles, which is why so many are pointing to the Rangers.
Gavrikov had 30 points (5G, 25A) in all 82 games this year with the Kings.
Right now, the Red Wings still have
Justin Holl on their roster, leading some to believe that GM Steve Yzerman may choose to keep him around for the final year of his contract
rather than buy him out.
If the Red Wings are to realistically compete for a postseason spot in the upcoming season, they'll need stronger play from their defensemen.
While Gavrikov would represent an upgrade on the blue line, he may prove too expensive for Yzerman's liking.
