While things for the most part have gone well under new coach Todd McLellan, the Red Wings are now part of an NHL record that they really want nothing to do with.
After enjoying a 7-game winning streak and winning 8 of 10 games under new head coach Todd McLellan, the
Detroit Red Wings have suddenly fallen back into some familiar and frustrating habits.
Poor goaltending and sloppy defense have done them in during their last consecutive games, losing by a combined 9-2 score to the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Dallas Stars in 24 hours.
The
Red Wings are now 5 points back back of the Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference, and things aren't getting any easier thanks to the sudden hot streaks of the Montreal Canadiens and Columbus Blue Jackets.
Meanwhile, the Stars now own the NHL's longest consecutive home winning streak over a single opponent, and it happens to be the Red Wings.
The Stars have defeated the Red Wings on home ice 12 consecutive games dating back to early January of 2017.
They also now have the 2nd longest active point streak against a franchise on home ice, dating back to 2015; only the Penguins have a longer active home point streak against a single opponent, picking up points in 16 straight home games against the Blue Jackets.
