Red Wings top youngster endures crucial injury
The injury bug has hit the Detroit Red Wings as they have lost top prospect Carter Mazur in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins to a lower-body injury.
The team is in thrall
to an injury bug that is tearing through the lineup in both the NHL and AHL.
That is top prospect, Carter Mazur, who is playing in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins at the start of the 2025-26 season.
According to Jake Tye of
The Hockey News, Mazur suffered a lower-body injury during the Griffins' practice this week and is currently being evaluated.
The former 70th overall pick in the 3rd-round of the 2021 NHL Draft had played a total of 5 games this season and scored 6 points (4-2) before the injury occurred.
The Detroit Red Wings Lose Carter Mazur
The Red Wings were thought to be on the cusp of calling up forward Carter Mazur after they assigned forward Michael Brandegg-Nygard back to the AHL with his recent struggles.
This is just another one in a history of unfortunate injuries for the former 3rd-round forward.
Mazur was injured in early March of last season just 17 seconds into his NHL debut with the Red Wings after suffering a dislocated elbow while going awkwardly into the boards after attempting to throw a hit on an opponent.
Mazur is in year three of his contract signed with the Detroit Red Wings signed with the team on on March 28, 2023.
It pays him an AAV (average annual value) of $906K, totaling $2.72 million in value for the 3rd-round pick.
