Detroit Red Wings linked to former 25th overall pick as a late free agency pickup

Jack Roslovic is another forward who remains available as a free agent late in July. There's some mystery surrounding the forward, considering he scored a career-high 22 goals and 39 points in Carolina last season.

It might be due to the fact that Roslovic has been a transient player in the NHL, jumping from team to team the past few years, and failing to find a home in the NHL.

Even as his own hometown team, the Columbus Blue Jackets, saw fit to send him to the New York Rangers for a conditional fourth-round pick in 2026.

Could he be a solution in Detroit?

Jack Roslovic's last contract in Carolina was a one-year contract that paid him $2.8 million AAV.

While he'd post impressive numbers in Carolina, it didn't seem like it was enough for GM Eric Tulsky to invite him back for another year wearing the Red and Black.

Could he be a steal for GM Steve Yzerman, as the chance to play for an original-six NHL team could be a huge selling point?

But where would he fit in?

"WingedWheelMedia" believes that Roslovic could fit into the Red Wings' top-six lineup, but given how stacked the 2nd-line is with Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, and Marco Kasper centering them, I'm not seeing it.

He could realistically be given a shot on the top line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond, but it's difficult to see him sticking there considering how inconsistent he's been his entire career.

Roslovic could come cheap, as this late in the season, Yzerman could offer him a lesser deal and a shot at the lineup, but no top-six guarantees in our opinion.

The former 25th overall pick in the 1st-round of the 2015 NHL Draft has yet to play up to his draft selection, even after all of these years.

Roslovic has played a total of 526 NHL games and scored 260 points (102-158)
