The Toronto Maple Leafs appear on the verge of making a drastic front office change involving a former member of the Detroit Red Wings organization.

History repeated itself last night in Toronto, as the Maple Leafs lost another Game 7. This time, they blew a 2-0 lead and were eliminated by the Florida Panthers.
After another missed shot at winning the Stanley Cup with the current core of players, it appears that many changes are expected on all scales of the organization this summer.
Indeed, while all eyes are on Mitch Marner to see if he played his last game with the Leafs, some are also waiting to see if Brendan Shanahan's era in Toronto will end.

The End of Shanahan and Marner in Toronto?

Before the season began, it seemed clear that unless the team could have a deep playoff run, massive changes would be made in Toronto.
General Manager Brad Treliving made many good moves in the offseason, and despite underwhelming trade deadline acquisitions paid at a hefty price, he should keep his job.
However, for President of Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan, the end appears near. It's safe to say the "Shanaplan" didn't lead to the promised results, and many experts believe he won't be keeping his job.
An official decision will be made in the coming days, and an announcement should be made before the end-of-season media availabilities.
As for Marner, we likely won't know what will happen to him until we get closer to July 1st, but last night, his post-game comments hinted at his departure from the team:
"Took a risky pick on a small kid from Toronto and I've been forever grateful to be able to wear this Maple Leaf and be a part of some of the great legends here. So, never taken a day for granted and always loved it."

When players talk about their time with a team in the past tense, it usually indicates the end of their partnership is coming.
If you missed it, the price the Red Wings would need to pay to acquire Marner in free agency was revealed.
Updates will follow.
