Detroit Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman reportedly made a call to inquire about an interesting defenseman on the trade market ahead of free agency.

With several defensemen expected to leave the team during the offseason, Detroit's blue line is set to undergo massive changes.
Earlier this week, Rasmus Andersson's name emerged in the trade rumors after reports confirmed important discrepancies in extension expectations with the Flames:
"It does not sound like Andersson and the Flames will be coming to terms on a contract extension. He has one year remaining on his current deal, and trade talks have picked up. There is solid interest in Andersson and Flames GM Craig Conroy is trying to maximize a return."

He has one year remaining on his $4,550,000 AAV contract and could end up playing the final season of his deal with another team if they can't make a deal happen.
If he ends up available, many teams are likely to show interest in Andersson, including the Detroit Red Wings, according to The Fourth Period:
"New name to add to the list. The Detroit Red Wings are apparently calling on Calgary's Rasmus Andersson."

Among the other interested organizations, The Fourth Period listed the Ottawa Senators, Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars, Columbus Blue Jackets, Boston Bruins, and Montreal Canadiens.
Andersson would bring exactly what Detroit needs: stability, experience, and a right-handed shot with offensive talents. With Yzerman's intentions to be aggressive in the market over the coming days, it wouldn't be surprising to see the team going after him.
The 27-year-old Swede has been a reliable two-way defenseman for the Flames for the past nine seasons, tallying 231 points, including 47 goals, in 536 regular season games, with 14 points, including seven goals, in 27 playoff games.
