Shayne Gostisbehere and the Carolina Hurricanes facing serious legal issues for possible copyright
Former Detroit Red Wing Shayne Gostisbehere and his new club, the Carolina Hurricanes, may have gotten themselves in a legal bind, as the Montreal Canadiens are ready to lawyer up.
The Carolina
Hurricanes were betting on their newest merchandise, a collaboration with the MLB, to be a cultural hit.
But it appears that the Canes have gotten caught in their own storm winds this time, as they'll be encountering legal troubles after attempting to dip their toes into the retro waters once more, this time with hats.
As you can see, the logo resembles another NHL team, an original-six club, the Montreal Canadiens.
While the marketing is there in order to drum up support for an MLB expansion team dubbed "MLB Raleigh," the campaign could land them in hot water if the Montreal Canadiens exercise their right to sue the Canes.
While they attempted to distinguish themselves from any other professional sports organization, they failed miserably.
It's an earnest attempt at a retro look that the Carolina Hurricanes, who have only existed for three decades, have failed to achieve. It appears that if the Canadiens decide to pursue legal action, they could've foregone the legal fees if they had hired a consultant from the start.
It appears short-term planning is the only goal with profit in mind nowadays, and this could negatively affect the team's perception in the NHL with other fans as well.
The Carolina Hurricanes were bounced out of the Eastern Conference Finals by the Florida Panthers, and now they are their own worst enemy.
