Former Detroit Red Wings forward Mark Kirton has sadly passed away at the age of 67, the Toronto Maple Leafs organization has confirmed.

At a young age, Kirton's battle with ALS has ended tragically.
He played two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings in 1980-81 and 1981-82, then would later return to the organization for one final season in 1982-83 after a short stint in the American Hockey League.
"We are saddened to learn of the passing of Mark Kirton following a battle with ALS.

Mark made his NHL debut with the blue and white and would go on to spend 8 seasons in the NHL. In 2018, he was diagnosed with ALS and in 2020 he founded ALS Action Canada with PALS (Patients with ALS), a patient-led initiative to find a cure. The Leafs Alumni Association were proud to name Mark a recent recipient of the Carl Brewer Memorial award in recognition of his work.

Our thoughts are with Mark's friends and family during this time. For more information on ALS Action Canada please visit alsactioncanada.org"

Kirton remembered for eight years of playing in in the NHL

Mark Kirton suited up in a total of eight NHL seasons, spanning from teams like the Vancouver Canucks to the Detroit Red Wings, alongside a successful AHL career.
His other stints came with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Adirondack Wings (AHL), Fredericton Express (AHL), and the Newmarket Saints (AHL).
