On August 17th, 1977, the Detroit Red Wings and Washington Capitals combined for a trade. Washington would send
Ron Low and a 3rd-round draft pick in 1979 to Detroit for Walter McKechnie and two draft picks ( a 3rd in 1978 and a 2nd in 1979).
Up until the 1977 season, Ron Low had been the Capitals' go-goalie, playing 54 games during the 1976-77 season for the team, which was one of the worst in the league at the time.
He'd finish with a record of 16-27-5, with a 3.88 GAA, and a .881 save percentage.
Walt McKechnie and The Washington Capitals
Ron Low' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Walt McKechnie was originally a 6th overall pick in the 1st-round of the NHL Amateur Draft in 1963.
For McKechnie, the Capitals would've been the 5th team he'd play for in the NHL at the time. Beginning his career in the league with the Minnesota North Stars, he'd find himself as a bit of a journeyman.
His season with the Capitals was a disappointing playing only 16 games and scoring 5 points (4-1), this after playing 80 games for the Red Wings, scoring 59 points (25-34) in 1976-77.
Neither player would help deliver their team to the Stanley Cup, and Jay Johnston would only play 8 games in the NHL with the Washington Capitals, Errol Rausse only 31 games total before being a minor-leaguer the rest of his professional career.
Boris Fistric would never see NHL ice, and would conclude his career after playing two years in the IHL with the Kalamazoo Wings.
