A major development suggested a potential fit between the former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews and the Detroit Red Wings.
Jonathan Toews confirmed in an interview that he will be available to sign a contract on July 1st, after missing two seasons due to health issues.
The insider Pierre LeBrun shared the news on X:
"Jonathan Toews reached out to his agent Pat Brisson yesterday to inform him he's 100 percent committed to coming back to the NHL next season. Just spoke with Brisson, who says he will start taking calls from NHL teams on Toews now leading up to July 1.
Toews, 37, last played in April 2023. He's been working out the last several months to get himself ready for this comeback."

There have been plenty of rumors about his next destination, but a new development suggests the Detroit Red Wings could be in the stakes.
FanDuel Sportsbook released the betting odds for Toews' next team, and the Wings are considered the seventh likeliest place he'd sign. The Winnipeg Jets are leading the race, with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights, and Edmonton Oilers in the top five.
