A huge trade is underway and it means a lot for the Detroit Red Wings
A huge trade is underway, and it could mean a lot for the Detroit Red Wings in next couple of seasons.
General manager Chris Drury faced heavy criticism after dealing away the former captain and the second overall pick of the 2019 draft. Now, just a few months later, the team appears to be continuing its teardown.
Seravalli revealed that the Rangers are on the verge of trading Chris Kreider to the Anaheim Ducks.
Here's what he posted on X:
His sources confirmed that the trade is not yet finalized, that talks will continue today, and that both teams are interested in making it happen.
The return being discussed centers around
Carey Terrance, a New York native drafted 59th overall by the Ducks in 2023.
The two-way center recorded 39 points, including 20 goals, in 45 games with the Erie Otters. He also scored twice in seven games at the World Junior Championship, helping Team USA win gold earlier this year.
While the return may seem underwhelming, Rangers GM Chris Drury could be clearing yet another contract without retaining salary, positioning his team to pursue top-tier players via trade or free agency.
Seravalli reports that the Ducks would be taking on the full value of Kreider's contract, which carries two more seasons at $6.5 million per year.
The move continues a clear message from Drury, who reportedly told other GMs early last season that he'd be open to moving multiple veterans, a decision that may have contributed to the Rangers' recent struggles.
For the Detroit Red Wings, this trade carries real implications. With Kreider moving to the Western Conference, one more dangerous Eastern forward is off the board. However, the Rangers will surely replace Kreider and could be a much stronger team next season. If both teams end up competing for a Wild Card playoff spot along the way, a tough challenge awaits the Wings.
